2023-2024
Senior Year
I spent my senior year developing my professional skills through my capstone course and getting more involved with NC State by participating in one of its oldest traditions. The coursework I completed includes Principles of Genetics, Eating Through American History, Senior Capstone in Nutrition, Social Psychology, General Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology II, Interpersonal Communication, and Maternal and Infant Nutrition. I began working for Care Yaya taking care of and providing companionship to senior citizens in the area. Click here to learn more about Care Yaya. Although I am looking forward to graduation, it is bittersweet. The past four years have not always been easy for me, but it has been a challenging and invaluable experience. The skills I developed, the knowledge I gained, and the relationships I formed are unforgettable.
Senior Capstone Project
While taking my senior capstone course, my group and I created a research project in which we examined how social media impacts young adults' perception of food and nutrition. We conducted in depth interviews and coded the interviews to identify themes. This project challenged my scientific writing, critical thinking, and time management skills and prepared me for real-world experiences. I further developed my competency in public speaking, pilot testing, and transcript coding . At the completion of this course, I presented my findings with my group at our department's end of the year research presentation symposium.
Krispy Kreme Challenge
Throughout my senior year, I volunteered on the Pre-Race and Fundraising Committee of the Krispy Kreme Challenge. My tasks included communicating with local businesses to attain donations, handing out donuts in Talley Student Union to promote the race, handing out race shirts at the expo, photographing certain events, and helping with the costume contest on race day. I had the opportunity to visit the VIP lounge with some of the patients and families from UNC Children's Hospital to determine the winner of the costume contest. By race day, there were 4,232 participants and $120,000 was raised to be donated to UNC Children's Hospital. This was such a fulfilling experience to be able to participate in one of NC State's oldest traditions while also raising money for a good cause.

Communication Deep Dive Assessment
During my Interpersonal Communication course, I completed a Deep Dive Assessment in which I had to identify one communication behavior that I could improve. Completing this assignment allowed me assess my own communication habits and look for ways to strengthen them. This course allowed me to better my communication skills, which will benefit my relationships, career opportunities, and self-concept.
